Marijuana Legalization. Individual Rights. Constitutional Amendment.
Since I have found no place online to sign this petition, and no way to contact “Christopher Springer,” I have begun this signature collection to contribute to the 694,354 needed for this to get to the presidential election in November that everyone will be voting for. Someone with more resources than I have must collect these signatures and present them to the government in the official manner.
Hello? NORML? Some help please? Thanks.
This Proposition is on the November 4, 2008 General Election Ballot in the State of California located here: http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_j.htm#1341
GO HERE TO SIGN THE PETITION RIGHT NOW!
Marijuana Legalization. Individual Rights. Constitutional Amendment.
Summary Date: 04/08/08
Circulation Deadline: 09/05/08
Signatures Required: 694,354
Proponent: Christopher Springer
Amends constitution to legalize marijuana and hemp within California and to provide for broad individual constitutional rights, including rights to food, shelter, medical care, and to be free from “unreasonable” taxation. Allows marijuana to be sold in any store that sells alcohol. Establishes local boards with expansive powers, including powers to regulate and tax marijuana. Requires marijuana tax revenues support specified programs. Exempts marijuana sales profits from income tax. Forbids most testing for marijuana used outside the workplace. Prohibits most marijuana, alcohol, and tobacco advertisements. Immunizes marijuana growers and sellers from liability. Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local government: Potential savings of up to several tens of millions of dollars annually to state and local governments, which would no longer incur the costs of incarcerating and supervising certain marijuana offenders. Potential costs of up to the tens of millions of dollars to state and local governments to fund the one-time start-up costs of the local boards. A potentially significant increase in state and local spending on substance abuse treatment services that could possibly be partially or fully offset by revenues from this measure. Potential increased revenues in the tens of millions to low hundreds of millions of dollars annually from marijuana stamps and licenses to support specified programs and the local boards. Unknown but potentially significant increase in state and local revenues from collection of sales and use taxes on the sale of Marijuana. Unknown but potentially significant decrease in state and local revenues from taxes on tobacco and alcohol due to a prohibition of advertising for these goods that would likely result in a decline in sales. Hi Everyone. Quite simply, I found an article online that linked to this Proposition. My next instinct was to search for the place I could sign the petition online. I COULDN’T FIND ONE!!
So, here is my contribution of signatures. I don’t have the financial means or political know-how to submit what I collect. So, I am looking for someone who is, on September 5th to take them and give them to The Secretary of State.
I have read various forum posts that claim there is controversy over the “legitimacy” of the Prop or the “flaws” it
contains. Well, I don’t think there is time for residents of California to hash that out before people start signing. Do you agree with the Prop? If yes then sign. I am sure you folks out there who know about the political process can figure things out while we create a DIGITAL REVOLUTION!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Online petitions will not be accepted by the Secretary of State as part of the “Signatures Required” to get the “Circulating Iniative” on the ballot. The elections code requires a physical(not electronic) signature to verify with the voter registration information.
Check with your County Elections officials, as they are the ones who accept collect and verify petitions. Online petitions like this can be used to convey peoples messages to certain government officials or companies, but will not be accepted by the Sec. of State.

Well, it’s the only way I know to get the word out. I don’t have the means to stand at my local supermarket to get signatures. Oh well, I guess I tried
Perhaps someone with more means than I can do this the right way.

I wrote an entry with the info here and Sosme information signing up for the Federal law being passed potentially this Nov for revoking federal authority of arrested adults for cannabis possession.
